Citronen : Lustspiel in 4 Acten, ca. 1878-1880, n.d.

Materials related to rehearsal and performance, including a published copy (Berlin: Eduard Bloch, n.d.), which has been annotated as a prompt-book; a handwritten scenario; and 12 handwritten role books, for the following parts (the complete list of characters): Graf Höltau; Emma, seine Nichte, ein Kind; Adele, Gouvernante; Ranninger, Major a. D.; Margarethe, seine Tochter; Frau Katharina Scherr; Marie, deren Tochter; Dr. Paul Scher, Rechsanwalt; Dr. Julius Hirse, Rechsanwalt; Jean, Diener bei Ranninger; Jean, Kammerdiener; and Babette, Haushälterin. In the published copy, the publisher's name appears on a label that has been pasted on; another label pasted to the front cover describes the volume as belonging to the Gesammelte Dramatische Werke of Rosen, which were published in 14 volumes between 1870 and 1888; this play was vol. 10. The published copy and the role books are labeled by hand as the property of Theodor Bloch, who was active in German-language theater in Philadelphia, first as an actor and later as a prompter, from 1873 until at least the mid 1890s, and who also ran a theater lending library. Names of actors and actesses noted on the covers of role books reflect several different casts that performed the play in Philadelphia around 1878 to 1880. See the index in the collection's register for details about 3 theater newspapers advertising performances at Germania Theater, Philadelphia, in 1878 and 1880 (drawer 35), as well as a playbill of May 1879 (folder 678); and an oversized playbill from Maennerchor Hall, of April 1878 (folder 722).
